American news papers are about as interested in the welfare of the king of England as Britishers.- Big headlines have been telling about an operation on his lung and his condition is con sidered grave. The Allies and Communists talking again and the U. N. moving 100,000 fresh troops into Korea. That is the language the Russian leaders understand . . . Douglas Walker, who lost his house by fire last week appreciates the offers of furniture and household goods and doesn’t want the people to think he doesn’t appreciate them. He has been without a home or place to put them. The old Can trell mill' house at Mill Farm has been bought and is being moved to Silver Creek and rebuilt for the Walker home. In the meantime if anyone must get rid of furniture or household goods he may notify Lee Cowan at the Farm Supply Store . . . John E. Jones, hus band of Ruth McFee, niece of Miss Ruth MicFee ot Tryon, has been named promotion director of The Asheville Citizen-Times. Donald, in charge of the “Why People Like Tryon” pro gram at Rotary on Friday, pre sented Matt M. O’Shields, Carter P. Brown, and Thomas J. Hair, as speakers. Mir. O’Shields explained that the Tryon Chamber of Commerce handles the hundreds of inquiries received each year from interest ed persons who want information. He told how Graves Taylor’s radio broadcasts on Detroit and Cleve land stations have greatly increas ed the number of inquiries this year from Michigan, Ohio, In diana, and Illinois. A letter, or a copy of The Tryon Daily Bulletin, or some other appropriate mail ing piece, is sent to each inquirer. Mr. Brown gave a detailed ex planation of the Tryon Riding & Hunt’s organization and its activi ties. He pointed out that the Tryon Hounds is a later and entirely separate organization. Some other highlights of his talk were: (1), the Tryon Horse Show is the best one-day show in the South; (2), the Tryon Hound Show, always held on the same day as the horse show, is the second-best hound show in America; and (3), the Tryon Spring Races are acknowledged to be the best organized and to be over the best courses as compared with similar races held anywhere else in the United States. Mr. Hair explained what has been done, is being done, and is planned to be done, to keep the Tryon Country Club as nearly a golfer’s paradise as possible on an income much lower than most clubs.
